This resource asks: what are sustainable communities and how can they be achieved? It talks to architects, planners, civic leaders, local residents, businesses and young people in three separate localities and looks at how each is responding to the challenge of creating a sustainable community. Is it well designed, well built and environmentally sensitive? What transport links does it have, what sort of leisure, health, retail services are provided? Is it well run, safe and fair for everyone? This resource will provide examples, models and ideas to help in the teaching of sustainable geography and will inspire and engage students to get them asking: Is my community sustainable? The DVD also contains a vast array of teaching materials written by leading geographers, including: case study work sheets, PowerPoint presentations and lesson plans, fieldwork questionnaires and advice and information about careers in sustainable communities.
