Description

The program explores the great variety of bacteria and the many diverse habitats in which they grow and interact with other organisms. Detailed microscopic images and diagrams show the fundamental differences between the prokaryotic bacterial cell and the eukaryotic. The rapid nature of bacterial growth is seen directly in moving images and through laboratory growth data that can be graphed. Students learn that genetic changes in bacteria occur naturally through mutation and also through human-directed genetic engineering.
