Supercomputer is a term applied to the fastest, most powerful computers at a given time. Supercomputers are typically used to solve scientific or industrial problems that involve the creation of mathematical models and the manipulation of large amounts of data. This program profiles a number of areas of research utilising the latest Supercomputers. Applications in molecular science, space science, medical imagery, oceanography, geology and surveillance are illustrated and explored in the program. The difficulties in storing and transporting large data sets in a way that creates a real time visualisation across the scientific community are shown and possible solutions are canvassed.
