Description

This is the first in a two part series on Furniture Design. This film takes a look at the Antique Reproduction Furniture Industry and the processes involved in reproducing antique furniture on a mass production scale by using modern technology and techniques. Examples of solid timber and veneered chipboard being shaped by a range of different machines are shown as well as the modern techniques used to distress' the furniture and give it an authentic antique appearance. Even though computer numerically controlled machine shapes a vast majority of the wood needed to make the furniture on such a large scale, this film shows that it is still the craftsmen who are needed to finish off the product to the customer's exact specification.
