Description

1. Fibre Growing and Textile Manufacture This program examines a range of new methods for growing and developing environmentally sound textiles for the clothing industry. It discusses changes to textile fibre production, with special focus on cotton, hemp and wool, then looks at improvements in textile manufacturing, especially in new synthetics production, dyeing techniques and improved waste management. 2. Fashion We see how environmental consciousness is translating to the fashion design and clothing manufacturing industries and impacting on the commercial decisions of major clothing retailers. We visit the catwalk of an alternative fashion parade and speak with designers and makers of recycled fashion, as well as tour a major company making new fashion garments with the rediscovered fabric: hemp. The program also provides an insight into environmental considerations of clothing manufacture.
