The human body needs carbohydrates, protein, fats and vitamins and minerals in the correct quantities to function properly. How though can we test and see which nutrient types are present in different foods? In this experiment based program we demonstrate simple experiments to test for fats, starchy carbohydrates, reducing sugars and protein. We then examine what happens to food once it has been eaten and passes through the digestive system. This program forms an excellent resource for all middle secondary students of biology and chemistry.
