Description

Johann Strauss II, the son of a composer was born in Vienna in 1825, and died in 1899 aged 73. Although his father (Johann Strauss Snr) discouraged his son from music and instead wanted his son to become a banker, Strauss followed his passion and embarked on a career in music under the tutelage of composer Joseph Drechsler. During his career, Strauss specialised in the beautiful and 'light' waltzes and dance music that were popular in the early 1900's (The Blue Danube, and Tales from the Vienna Woods). This inspiring program encapsulates the romance of the 'Strauss Era' .
