Description

Great athletic feats are not achieved by the physical effort alone, mental preparation is also a contributor towards the success of a performance. This program examines the psychological factors that can affect a sporting performance such as intrinsic/ extrinsic motivation and anxiety arousal. Coaches discuss the role of reinforcement in motivating their charges and sports psychologists discuss the Inverted-U-hypotheses and The Zone. Techniques that control anxiety are also explored, such as concentration skills, mental rehearsal, visualisation, relaxation and goal setting. These techniques are of benefit to athletes and students both on and off the field.
