Description

This program provides an insight into teenage alcoholism. We meet four teenagers from different ethnic backgrounds who share personal stories of alcohol abuse and recovery. Psychologist Susan Tapert PhD, a specialist in adolescent alcoholism, offers important information on how a young person can become addicted to alcohol. She also explains some of the problems faced by those who do become addicted. This hard-hitting documentary presents the facts and provides expert commentary on how abuse of stimulants and depressants harms the brain and the body. Young people talk about their experiences with these drugs and health professionals discuss their biological impact. Stimulants discussed are caffeine, ADHD prescription medicines Ritalin and Adderall, nicotine, amphetamines, cocaine, and ecstasy (MDMA). Depressants discussed are alcohol, barbiturates and sleeping pills, tranquilizers, Rohypnol and GHB.
