A lot of time and effort goes into designing packaging that serves a variety of functions, is appealing to consumers and is economic to make.The purposes of packing and principles of good packaging design are examined before we investigate the design brief, and the numerous technical and other criteria that the packaging has to meet to be considered successful. We then look at the actual design process, from concept sketches to testing and evaluation of the finished product. The program is set in the scene of the everyday supermarket with its thousands of items on the shelves, clarifies some of the philosophies of why people choose certain brands. It takes the viewer through some of the reasons for packaging, discusses the target markets and the prinicples of design. Cost factors are addressed as well as the actual design process. We see the latest technology and the very stringent process of quality control used to ensure quality products at the finish process.
