Description

Equilibrium - The Concepts This program covers the basic concepts of chemical equilibrium and the equilibrium law. Examples and analogies are used throughout to represent the concept of equilibrium. Finally, the program considers what an equilibrium constant indicates about a reaction - in terms of the relative quantities of reactants and products present at equilibrium. Equilibrium 2 - Applying the Concepts Begins with an overview of the basic concepts of chemical equilibrium - reversible reactions, Le Chatelier's principle, the equilibrium law and calculating K. Changing conditions covered are: adding more reactants or products, changing the pressure of a gaseous reaction, diluting a reaction occurring in liquid phase, and adding a catalyst to a reaction. We examine how K changes when increasing and decreasing the temperature of exothermic reactions and endothermic reactions. The industrial manufacture of sulphuric acid is explored and how the concepts of equilibrium apply.
