Description

In this comprehensive program, three distinct segments provide a thorough overview of all three forms of chemical bonding. In the first segment, we look at ionic bonding: Gilbert Lewis theory, the common properties of ionic compounds, electronegativity, Pauling scale and ionisation energy. In the second segment we explore covalent bonding: how electrons are shared in covalent compounds, Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) theory, dipole interactions and dispersion forces. In the final segment we examine metallic bonding: how a delocalised 'sea' of electrons explains many properties of metal, the geometric arrangement of metal cations body-centred cubic, face-centred cubic and hexagonal close-packing.
