Description

The program introduces the topic of wood products with a brief discussion concerning the diminishing old growth forests and the need to find alternative products. The overuse of timber in today's society with both plantation forests and the engineered wood products is discussed, including Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), Plywood and Chipboard. We are then given a detailed explanation of how the four engineered wood products are manufactured, from the initial timber felling stage at the plantation to the finished board ready for sale, with each example based around a different production company and location.
