Direct patient care is one of the most rewarding jobs in the nursing profession. However it's not the only one. There are many opportunities to expand your career out of the ward. Nurse unit management is a rewarding pathway for aspiring senior nurses looking to diversify their professional portfolio. This program looks at the role of Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), and includes interviews from aspiring and practising NUMs. We discuss typical duties such as managing resources, budgeting, planning, problem solving and organising. We also explore the importance of communication with allied health professionals, the use of different management techniques, and demonstrate effective leadership behaviours.
