This program describes what adequate hydration of elderly residents/clients is, as well as methods to prevent dehydration. Included are ways to deal with incontinence, monitoring intake and output and recognising potential problems with residents/clients with IV's, gastrostomy or other tubes. At the end of this program, the learner will be able to: 1. Identify a patient with the potential to become dehydrated. 2. List and describe three types of altered fluid deficit or dehydration. 3. Identify actions related to the prevention and management of dehydration.
