It is vitally important to create meaningful mealtimes for residents of long term care. During this two part program we present a comprehensive mealtime plan that focuses on principles of resident autonomy and person centred care. During these programs we pay special attention to identifying the needs of people with dementia. Material covered includes the effects of dementia on communication and behaviour and creating dining experiences that create dining environments with fewer distractions. We also discuss how to prepare and serve food in a way that enables the resident to eat as independently as possible.
